Hair Care TreatmentsIf you take a closer look at the market for hair care treatments, you are sure to realize that there are tons of them.

Shampoos and conditioners of different brands and claims are available. Numerous hair care services are being offered. The radio and television, not to mention the internet are filled with advertisements and propagandas of the many treatments for hair care products out there. The core purpose of these products though are to give people a more beautiful and healthy hair. But with the many options and products available out there, choosing the right one for you could be a pain.

Here are some guidelines as what is what with hair care treatments.

The condition of your hair will play a great role in determining which hair care suggestions you should heed. If you have greasy hair, then you are better off with products that minimize the sebum in your scalp. This will prevent your hair from getting greasy and from becoming limp. Dandruff can also be prevented this way.

You can also avail of hair care treatments that further the exfoliation of your scalp. Use shampoos and conditioners that have amino acids in them along with cleansing agents. Oily hair may be caused by the diet you take so make sure you pay attention to that area too.

If you have dry hair, then you can get hair care treatments that nourish. Avail of nourishing conditioners and make use of them intensively. Dry hair can also equal to frizzy hair. If you want to undergo hair care treatments, avail of those that do not use heat. As for styling, avoid perms and hair coloring. Also, one of the most important hair care suggestions for dry hair is not to use heated appliances. When it comes to hair washing, dry hair should not be washed often, once every 4 days could be just about it. Use a bristle brush when brushing the hair. You would also do well on conditioning products that are the spray – on types.

Take note that chemicals can harm your hair. So as much as possible, use hair care treatments that is natural. Find a good home made formula. This may take a lot of effort and time but your hair is important. All the care and effort spent on it will be well worth it. Also, products and services are not the only paths to proper hair care. There are also certain ways of applications of these products that must be paid attention to. Other factors that can improve your caring for your hair include proper diet and a healthy body. This is because some of severe hair conditions might be caused by medical reasons which would then require a whole new different approach in terms of hair care treatments.

Moreover, some people have allergic reactions to certain chemicals. So make sure you approach an expert before using any product or availing of certain hair care services. Use only the approved products and services.

How to Care for Curly Hair

How to Care for Curly HairIf you have curly hair, chances are your hair tends to be dry, coarse and brittle. It also tends to frizz up, doesn't it? Here, we show you how to care for your curly hair.

Products Every Curly-Haired Girl Needs

Unlike your limp-tressed sisters who should stay away from products that weigh down their hair, you need a few products to keep frizz and dryness in check:
Creamy shampoos Creamy shampoos are a better bet than clarifying (or clear) shampoos.
Two types of conditioners You simply cannot overcondition frizzy hair. You need a heavy conditioner for use every time you wash your hair, and a deep conditioner for use once a week.
Smoothing cream and alcohol-free gel From the minute you step out of the shower, you need to coat the cuticle so it locks out moisture. In the book 'Confessions of a Beauty Editor,' author Linda Wells suggests a one-two-punch: 2 parts cream for 1 part gel (yes, you have to buy the products separately). A walnut-sized amount will do you. Simply rub together then palm the mixture from mid-shaft down. Comb the product throughout all of your hair with a wide-toothed comb.
Styling cream Enhance your curls with a cream created for curly hair. Rub it in and let hair airdry.
Style serum Warm up a couple drops of this in your hands and palm over dry, frizzy curls. The serum will solve your frizz problems.
Straightening balm or gel If you want to blow-dry hair straight, rub a quarter-size amount of this on hair before drying curly hair (always in sections, working from the lower layers on up).

Put Away the Blow Dryer

To combat the frizzies, refrain from blowing hair dry. Adding heat to air only increases the problem. Instead, finger-comb hair, letting curls air-dry. (Luckily, because your hair tends to be dry, so you don't need to wash hair more than a couple times a week). If you must use a blow dryer, use a diffuser and dry by cupping hair with your hands from below (never scrunch curls, you'll invite frizz). One tip we learned from a curly haired friend: Don't rub hair dry with a towel, instead squeeze moisture out with paper towels.

The Less You Mess, the Better

The more you play with your curls, blow drying them, scrunching them, etc, the better chances you'll get frizz. You can style hair by twisting curls around your finger, letting them lay to air dry.

How to Straighten Curly Hair

First apply straightening balm (see above). Divide hair into four or five sections and blow dry each section using a flat paddle brush. Once hair is COMPLETELY dry, flat-iron 2-inch sections at a time. Rub a silicon-based gloss between hands and palm over your straightened sections. It will help hold the hair in place.

Want Straight Hair for Good? Consider a Permanent Treatment

If you find you flat-iron your hair almost every time you wash it, you might consider investing in a permanent hair-relaxing session. Gentle relaxers can last up to six months and take only about an hour to do. But these are best on single-processed hair (hair that's not been colored). Thermal reconditioning is another option. The process takes about four hours but lasts six to 10 months.

Get the Right Haircut

Curly hair needs length to weigh curls down. Your best cut will be medium to long, with layers cut in to alleviate some of the fullness. What you don't want is a blunt cut, which means a ton of fullness on the bottom -- a very dated look. Instead, ask for layers starting at your upper lip, gradually angled back.

Find a Good Stylist

My stylist had curly hair and she went to another stylist with curly hair to get her hair cut. Why? Because she knew this stylist understood her hair, her needs and how finicky curly hair can be. Not everyone agrees with me (some stylists insist anyone can cut curly hair), but I still stand firm.

How to Get the best hairstyle

How to Get the best hairstyleHair is a natural and personal asset that can be arranged and styled to accentuate your personality. The first impression that you make is largely dependent on your face and what you have on top of that.

The two features, that is your face and your hairstyle would complement each other. As you really can’t do much to alter the shape of your face, it becomes all the more important to adjust and style your hair to add to your facial personality.

Follow the steps to arrive at the most appropriate style that adds to your personality.

Step-1 The shape of a face can broadly be classified to five or six types. It could be a round or an oval shaped face. Some have a squarish or a rectangular shape while at times it may be heart shaped.

Determine the shape of your face by spending some time before a mirror. That’s the most important step, for, what suits somebody else may not suit you due to difference of shape.

Step-2 Hair styles need maintenance and thus demand your time. You may choose a style that looks good on you but it may need a bit too much of your time everyday or at times you may feel more convenient in a different style, depending on the activities, (and even the profession) that take most of your time.

Do you like to pull them down at the gym or do you like those to be falling on your face? Take all that into consideration.

Step-3 Watch people around you to assess the shape of their faces and the kind of style they are flaunting. Better still, collect magazines connected with fashion and cut out the snaps of celebrities with your kind of facial shape.

Now compare those cut outs, keeping in mind the above two steps. Short list a few that impresses you most.

Step-4 Are you aware that there are a few websites that allow you to load a photograph of yourself and virtually try a new style. Some are free. Search the net to choose one and try a virtual style.

Stp-5 Consult the stylist. Armed with those snaps and the virtual styles approach your stylist and take his/her opinion. He will educate you on all the aspects right from the most suitable style to the effort you’ll be required to maintain that style.

Step-6 Maintain a positive frame of mind, after all it’s your hair. Even if you don’t

how to control Hair dandruff

how to control Hair dandruff Hair dandruff how to control it hilary sept05 hairDandruff is the most widespread hair problem especially among men. If you ever had dandruff, also known as scurf, you know what it’s like – irritated scalp and itches, flaky skin and constant wondering whether to wear black or not. Many people err to believe that dandruff is caused by dry skin, frequent head washing or poor hygiene. These popular myths can lead to ineffective and often – inappropriate treatment and even worsen the situation.
Dandruff has a negative impact on one’s self esteem, and people suffering from that condition are usually more sensitive about their appearance than the rest.

What causes dandruff?

Dandruff is caused by a type of fungus – Pityrosporum ovale. Upon a normal organism state is does not cause any problems.
However when the skin pH balance in the hairy part of the head is broken and the environment is alkalized, the fungus starts to breed faster and due to the more frequent change of skin cells it leads to peeling.
The cause of the accelerated fungus growth has not been found, but the most probable causes are increased fat secretion by the organism, hormonal disbalance, stress, different ill-conditions of the nervous system, suppressed immune system, oversensitivity to the fungus itself or even inherited susceptibility to dandruff. In rare cases dandruff can be a manifestation of an allergic reaction to some of the chemicals in hair gels, hair sprays, hair oils or other hair products.
Very few people know that there are two forms of dandruff – external and internal. External dandruff is caused by excessive use of hair products - sprays and gels, improper use of hair-coloring products, excessive use of hair curlers or hair straighteners, cold weather, dry indoor heating, stress, infrequent shampooing of the hair or inadequate rinsing of the scalp. Internal dandruff can be caused by hormonal imbalance, emotional stress, poor health, poor hygiene, allergy to some foods, lack of rest, excessive consumption of sugar, fat and starch and hereditary predisposition.
Even though there is a lot more to be found about dandruff, what is unquestionably known about it is that it is a medical, rather than a cosmetic problem.

What are the symptoms of dandruff?

* white, oily flakes of dead skin
* itchy, scaling scalp
* too dry or too oily hair
* greasy skin covered with flaky white, or yellow scales.

How to treat dandruff?

In most cases it is not necessary to consult the presence of dandruff with a physician. Dandruff is a chronic condition which can almost always be controlled, even though it requires patience and persistence.
It is always recommended to use a special medical shampoo which can be found in your local pharmacy.
There are several types of commercially available shampoos, containing active dandruff fighting ingredients. However there are not enough convincing researches related to them so they are not registered as medical products, but as cosmetic shampoos.
The most anti-dandruff products contain active ingredients such as: Sodium bicarbonate, Zinc pyrithione , Salicylic acid , Selenium sulfide, Tea tree oil , Tar.
The most effective substance, and most recommended by dermatologists worldwide, is ketoconazole – also known as Nizoral (most often in 2% concentration) which is known in the area of medicine with its wide specter efficiency in treatment and prevention of seborrheic dermatitis, dandruff, lichen planus and other fungus skin diseases.
The effect of ketoconazole has been repeatedly and thoroughly researched. Researches of its efficiency against different types of fungus show that ketokonasol breaks the fungus cell wall, which leads to its extermination.
What should I use?

Ketosal could be the answer. It is a medical shampoo with 2% content of ketokonasol that can keep your dandruff under control, so you won’t be constantly checking on your shoulders. Ketosal can stop the fungus breeding cycle.
Once the fungus is under control – so is your dandruff. Besides it has all the benefits of a “regular” luxurious shampoo – nice fragrance, silk sensation in your hand and washes your hair perfectly.
Ketosal also has no negative impact on dyed, white or treated hair. Use it twice weekly to treat your hear and your hair will be shiny, easy to shape, vigorous and with volume. And of course – dandruff free!

What else do you need to know?

Remember: Dandruff is due to the excessive shedding of dead skin cells from the scalp.
Remember: sometimes dandruff may be a symptom of seborrhoeic dermatitis, psoriasis, fungal infection.
Remember: When using anti-dandruff shampoo be sure to leave the shampoo on for at least five minutes — this allows the ingredients time to work.
Remember: In general, mild scaling can often be helped by daily cleansing with a gentle shampoo to reduce oiliness and cell buildup.
Remember: Sometimes scaling can occur anywhere on the scalp, in the hair, on the eyebrows, the beard and can spread to the neck and shoulders.
If your dandruff is mild, wash your hair regularly to remove the excess flakes.
When you apply the shampoo, massage your scalp with your fingers to remove dead skin and improve blood circulation.
Avoid prolonged sun exposure, especially in mid-day – ultraviolet rays can damage your hair.
Always wash your hair with clean water after you have been to the pool or in a natural basin with contaminated water, even the sea.
A diet that provides enough zinc, vitamins and minerals, and essential fatty acid may help prevent dandruff.

8 Tips For Naturally Beautiful Hair
8 Tips For Naturally Beautiful Hair

1. Avoid shampoos that contain sodium laurel sulfate, or sodium laureth sulfate. These chemicals are synthetic detergents that are used in dishwashing liquid and other cleansers. They are valued because they lather well, but they are very harsh, and can dry out your hair. Instead, look for shampoos made with decyl glucose, or decyl glucoside, which are much gentler.

2. Give yourself a hot oil treatment to deep condition your hair. Warm oil penetrates the hair shaft making the hair more flexible and giving it shine. This can also help to prevent split ends which result from dry hair.

3. Eat right and consider taking vitamin and mineral supplements to encourage healthy hair. Several vitamins and minerals have been shown to help hair growth and condition including biotin, vitamin E, vitamin B, vitamin C and MSM.

4. If you are an African American, or if you have extra curly hair, avoid brushing your hair. Use a wide toothed comb, or your fingers to work with your hair. Brushes can destroy African American or extra curly hair by shearing it out of the scalp.

5. Look for essential oils, herbs and vegetable oils in your hair care products. Essential oils such as rosemary, ylang-ylang and west Indian bay help to stimulate hair growth. Lavender and tea tree are naturally antiseptic and help to fight dandruff. Vegetable oils such as soybean oil, safflower oil and corn oil are moisturizing and conditioning to the hair shaft.

6. Avoid sleeping in hair accessories such as barrettes, scrunchies, head bands, etc. This can lead to hair damage.

7. Massage your scalp to help stimulate hair growth. Massaging helps stimulate hair growth by increasing the blood flow to the scalp. This nourishes the hair roots and helps to stimulate the hair growth process.

8. If your hair ends are damaged, give yourself a trim every so often to remove damage.

How to Wash Your Hair

How to Wash Your Hair The first thing you should do is to comb the tangles out of the hair before you wet it so the hair would wash easily and the tangles would not worsen. And then, wet your hair thoroughly under the shower. You can use either warm or cold water if you like, but for best results, you can wet your hair with warm water to open the scale-like cuticles of the hair and wash all the oil and dirt off. And then, you can rinse your hair with cold water afterwards to close the cuticles and add to the shine of your hair.

Rinse your hair under the shower to rid it of the leave-on conditioner and styling aids you have used previously, using gentle strokes of your fingertips. Then, pour a dollop of shampoo in the palm of your hand. Rub your hands together, and then apply the shampoo to your scalp. Take note that you should put the shampoo on your scalp and not at the ends of your hair, as the shampoo would dry your hair's ends and cause it to weaken and split. Also, do not mix your hair all over your head as you shampoo because it will get all tangled up. After this, rinse the shampoo off.

More often than not, we need to shampoo our hair for a second time. The purpose of the first shampoo is to clean the oil and dirt off; the second shampoo is supposed to let the shampoo treat our hair. So, repeat the process, but let the shampoo sit on for around a couple of minutes. Rinse the hair completely after this.

To get the excess water off your hair, just squeeze the water out. Do not pull or tug at the hair because the hair is at its most delicate when it is soaked. When the excess water is out, apply a dollop of conditioner - mane event - and apply it along the hairline, the nape and the ends of the hair. Pile your hair then inside a shower cap and let the conditioner stay there for around ten minutes. And then, rinse it off completely.

The process described here does seem tedious and time-consuming. But remember, having great hair takes time and effort.

10 mantras to beat hair loss

http://www.healthhype.com/wp-content/plugins/hair-loss.jpg* Eat lots of paneer, spinach (palak), green veggies and milk.
* Regularly oil and shampoo your hair. That's a must at least three times a week, to nourish your scalp. Applied oil must be washed within 24 hours or else it could mix with dust and clog the pores.
* If you are allergic to oil then try to use medicated oil. Or else go in for a potion or hair tonic which has no component of oil. These too can nourish your scalp. They are also known as hair vitalisers.
* Henna is also a good scalp conditioner, but not a good hair conditioner as it tends to make the hair dry and brittle. Hence you must use oil after washing off the henna, before shampooing.
* Washing your hair after a session of rigorous exercise like gymming, jogging etc when the scalp tends to sweat a lot is a must.
* Once in a while chemical treatments like perming, chemical straightening etc are alright, but too much of it causes breakage of hair.
* Another reason for hair getting damaged is heat exposure to the hair and scalp, with a blow-dryer, hot oil or hot water and usings combs with sharp teeth.
* Never comb your hair when it is wet. Towel drying is the best way to dry your hair.
Why does hair fall?

Lack of hair oil, acute illness, dandruff, emotional shock or stress, thyroid problems, nutritional deficiency and hair colouring, sans the correct regime to go with it. Of these, stress is a major cause of hair loss and baldness, in India and this condition is called Alopecia areata. The cure for this is simple - learn to live a relaxed life through regular meditation, occasional massages, music, yoga and prayers, which are all excellent stress busters. Last but not the least, good hair is the barometer of good health, so practice these mantras and let your hair shine.

Tip 1: My hair is like my mother's so I am genetically blessed with good hair. Honestly speaking, my hair doesn't require maintenance. However, the daily blow drying or curling does take a toll on my hair. So to counter those effects, I oil my hair regularly. Pure castor, almond, coconut and olive oils are very good for the hair.

Tip 2: I have never coloured my hair and I don't use any modern methods or treatments to care for my hair. I rely on dadi maa ke nuske to care for my hair. I put a mixture of curd, henna and lemon in my hair.

Tip 3: My mother used to wash my hair with beer and I continue to do so to this day. It makes my hair shiny and bouncy.

Tip 4: I trim my hair every month, about 2-3 inches. It is important to trim your hair regularly to get rid of damaged hair. Quality is more important than quantity.

Tip 5: Lastly, don't fret too much over hair fall. When you stop worrying about it, hair fall will automatically stop. Don't fall for the latest hairstyle trends like coloring, layered cuts or bobs. If you have straight and thick hair, maintain a uniform length because that makes your hair shine better than layered hair. If you have long, thick and straight hair, value it and don't cut it. Nothing looks more gorgeous than long hair that shines with health.

How to Get Beautiful Straight Hair

http://www.keral.com/beauty/images/hair_care2796.jpg
Having Beautiful straight hair has become almost every girls wish so I have just post this info to guide garls !

1) Choose a right and good brand straightner . Other unknown or cheap brands can spoil ur hair. Prefered straightner : Remington or GHD.

2) Using protection Before, During and After straightening is as essential as this will protect ur hair from getting thin or damaged.

3) Don't use any cheap gels for ur hair after or before straightening especially the ones that say " Ideal For Straightening " Those are the gels that make ur hair more hard and rough especially when used while straightening. If you want to keep moisture in your hair even though when hair is straightened use above mentioned protection. Thats the best solution.

Haircare tips for the monsoon

Slicked down wet hair may look sexy on a bikini-clad babe in a Bollywood flick, but the truth is that constant drenching in the monsoon and high levels of humidity spell bad news for your mane. We can fall prey to a number of scalp problems and bad hair days during the rainy season and diligent hair care is needed to maintain the heath and good looks of your locks.

Certain scalp diseases become more prevalent in the monsoon -- exposure to dirty rainwater and consequent warm, humid conditions encourage the growth of bacteria and fungi on the scalp. Painful pus-filled boils due to bacterial infections are fairly common in this season, not to mention severely itchy, flaking patches of fungal infection, which result in hair loss in the affected area (most often seen in children).

Much as we hate to admit it, lice infestations are also way too common in the rains; lice breed during this season. And what's more, such infestations are not just a poor man's problem -- well-to-do, hygiene-conscious people can also be easily infected. The person travelling next to you on the train or your domestic help can easily pass them on to you.

For some, dandruff worsens as the fungus responsible for causing it flourishes in humid weather. Non-specific itchiness of the scalp and irritation are also common.

To prevent these problems, frequent shampooing and keeping your hair dry as far as possible is a must in the monsoons. Contrary to popular belief, frequent washing does not lead to hair loss -- you can even wash your hair daily with a mild shampoo if your hair is exposed to rain every day.

For boils on the scalp try Betadine AD shampoo twice a week; for fungal infections and dandruff you can try ketoconazole-based shampoos like Nizral, KZ etc. For lice, apply Perlice, leave on for a couple of hours and wash off. If the problem is not resolved in a few days or become very severe, please do consult a dermatologist immediately.

You must also dry your hair after shampooing thoroughly. Use a hair dryer with a diffuser attached and keep it six to eight inches away from your hair to avoid singeing/ burning. If you're caught unawares in a rain shower and don't have a hair dryer (say at the office or a cinema hall) flip your hair under the hand dryer in the bathroom and run your fingers through it till dry.

Conditioning is very important in the monsoon as excess humidity in the environment tends to frizz your hair. A good conditioner neutralises this frizzing and smoothens out the hair, making it manageable. Severe frizziness in curled or permed hair can be tackled with anti-frizz serums available in the market (TIGI, Schwarzkopf etc). If you're planning to colour your hair or perm it, it's advisable to wait till the rains are over as such treatments don't always give their best results in highly humid conditions.

Keep your nourishment levels up with a high protein diet and plenty of whole grains and nuts, which are rich in biotin (the vitamin that helps hair growth). You can also try protein-rich hair packs. Blend an egg white, olive oil, soaked and crushed fenugreek (methi) seeds and yoghurt and coat sections of your hair with it using a pack brush. Leave on for half an hour and shampoo out thoroughly with lukewarm water. Severe hair loss or breakage should be tackled by a dermatologist to determine the exact cause and to institute effective treatment for the same.

And here's the golden rule for healthy hair in the monsoons -- keep hairstyles short and simple and your scalp clean and dry.

10 mantras to beat hair loss

10 mantras to beat hair loss

10 mantras to beat hair loss

Trichologists Dr Apoorva Shah and Dr Sonal Shah, who have trained at the Institute of Trichology in London, are certified hair specialists advisors from the International Association of Trichologists, Australia, offer a few tips. The husband and wife duo are also the official hair advisors for the Miss India contest.

Their mantras:

* Eat lots of paneer, spinach (palak), green veggies and milk.

Hair Color Guide Tips

Hair Color Guide TipsCheck out how you can sync your streaks with your hairstyle and how to pick the best all-over hue for you. If you have…

* Short hair: If your coils stops around your chin, blend half-inch sections of colour all around your head to add depth, enhancing your the shape of your cut.
* Shoulder-length hair: Create the illusion of layers with a few quarter-inch to half-inch streaks of color around your face.
* Long locks: Weave in lots of skinny, 1/8-inch strips all over the top layer of your hair, which will accentuate the length of your tresses.

Pick the Best Hue

* Blond: A warm gold or rich honey shade will brighten your base and help blend in any existing highlights. Do a monthly gloss treatment to add extra sheen all over.
* Redhead: Overly coppery hues can make a pale complexion seem ruddy, and if you have freckles, forget about it. Stick to more becoming shades of auburn and amber.
* Brunette: Go two tones darker than your roots — otherwise you’ll end up with a wishy-washy brown. Deep chocolate and coffee shades add just the right amount of intensity.

Maintaining the Look

* Daily: Mist damp hair with a hydrating spray to protect the cuticle and guard against drying UV damage.
* Weekly: Enhance your hue with a fast deep-conditioning treatment.
* Monthly: Get a quick trim to rid yourself of dull, frayed ends, as they draw attention to damage and away from the healthy, shimmering areas.
* All Season Long: Chlorine is like kryptonite for color-treated hair. Either wear a swim cap or do a post pool rinse with club soda (it’s more effective than tap water).

Homemade Hair Care Tips

Homemade Hair Care Tips Want to soften hair and leave it shiny? Then mayonnaise is the conditioning condiment for you. Comb just enough mayo through your hair to coat it lightly. Then leave on for 30 minutes before shampooing out per normal. For a deeper conditioning treatment, place a shower cap on top of your mayo-coated locks and leave on for longer (even overnight if you’re feeling extra dry). Other interesting uses? Next time you get gum stuck in your hair, rub Mayo in until the gum dissolves right out
Vinegar
Used for centuries as health tonic, this tasty, tangy acid can help remove residue that dulls your hair. Add about a tablespoon of vinegar to your hair as you rinse it. And if you have an itchy scalp or dandruff, try massaging full-strength apple cider vinegar into your scalp before shampooing. In addition to adding shine to your hair, vinegar is also known for its skin healing properties.
Eggs
Finally! A way to benefit from eggs' natural proteins without the cholesterol! Crack a few eggs and beat together in bowl. After shampooing, massage through your hair and leave on before rinsing out thoroughly. This treatment should help repair or strengthen your hair follicles -- leading to silkier locks with good body. Alternate ideas include whisking one egg yolk together with a dash of olive oil and 3/4 cups warm water.
